ZARAGOZA (Spain) - Fenerbahce Opet star Gabby Williams has snapped up the EuroLeague Women Defensive Player of the Year award after another standout season in the competition.
The French national team forward picks up the accolade for the second time, having previously won it en-route to lifting the 2021 EuroLeague Women title with Sopron Basket.
She is also the second Fenerbahce player to have won the award, with her namesake Elizabeth Williams taking the trophy in 2022.
Williams was instrumental in taking Fenerbahce to the Final Six unbeaten and directly to the Semi-Finals. She has averaged a performance efficiency valuation of 19.7 after scoring 14.5 points and dishing out 3.5 assists - notably grabbing 5.4 rebounds and 2.8 steals.
The 28-year old landed the prestigious honor via a combination of the votes of EuroLeague Women coaches, players, selected media and the fans.
The award was presented by Aragon Councilor for Education, Culture and Sports Tomasa Hernandez and FIBA Europe Board member Ivan Bodrogvary.
Williams saw off competition from the two other Finalists in the category, who were Yvonne Anderson of CIMSA CBK Mersin and Mariona Ortiz of Casademont Zaragoza.
