MADRID (Spain) - There have been some exciting USA lineups down the years at the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup, but which was the greatest team of all-time?
We have been looking back at the tournament's rich and illustrious history to pull out what we think are the best three candidates which you can read about below.
You also have a chance to cast your vote and let us know who deserves that label of the #FIBAU19 GOAT Team!
2019 in Bangkok, Thailand
Headliners: Paige Bueckers, Hailey Van Lith, Rhyne Howard, Aliyah Boston, Caitlin Clark
The Class of 2019 was packed full of talent although had to get it done in the title game against an Australian team that almost pulled off the surprise. USA needed overtime to win gold, taking a 74-70 win against the Gems which meant USA had recaptured their precious crown which they had unexpectedly lost two years earlier in Udine.
With more than 11 points and 5 assists per game, Paige Bueckers picked up MVP honors as they finished 7-0, while the team included a younger Caitlin Clark who would take MVP in 2021. Rhyne Howard top scored with 13.1 points per outing. More here.
2013 in Klaipeda, Lithuania
Headliners: Breanna Stewart, A'Ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum, Brianna Turner
This was the event when Breanna Stewart and A'Ja Wilson played on the same team - quite something since both would move on to be crowned FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup MVP's in 2018 and 2022 respectively. With Kelsey Plum in the backcourt and Brianna Turner also in the lineup, this was a team that was always going to dominate.
Their unbeaten run was signed off with an absolutely brutal shutdown of France in the title game when they restricted their opponents to a record low 28 points in the Final. More here.
20009 in Bangkok, Thailand
Headliners: Skylar Diggins, Nneka Ogwumike, Kelsey Bone
This was an edition when many observers of #FIBAU19 history will class as arguably the most talent-packed ever in terms of the broader sense and what some of the other nations had. Yet USA were rampant and had a heavy three-punch with Skylar Diggins, Nneka Ogwumike and Kelsey Bone all averaging double-digit scoring returns to keep USA unbeaten, including a comfortable 16 point title win against Spain on the final day.
