Teams come together for parade and ceremony in Udine
UDINE - The 16 teams competing in the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2017 came together on Thursday evening for a parade in Udine's centre and a ceremony in the city's oldest square.
UDINE (FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2017) - The 16 teams competing in the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2017 came together on Thursday afternoon for a parade in Udine's centre and a ceremony in the city's oldest square.
On the second rest day of the competition, the 16 delegations left the Palazzetto Dello Sport Manlio Benedetti (one of the competition's practice facilities) and made their way to Piazza della Liberta during the bustling aperitivo time.
They received plenty of cheers and applause along the way from onlookers who also called out the names of their countries.
Once in the square, they were joined by local authorities and tournament organizers who paid tribute to them. These personalities included: Raffaella Basana, councilor of sport for Udine; Giuseppe Ruolo, councilor of sport for the municipality of Cividale del Friuli; Giovanni Adami, President of the Italian Basketball Federation (FIP) Friuli Venezia Giulia; and former Italy international Giacomo Galanda.
The action resumes on Friday with the Quarter-Finals taking place in Udine's Palasport "Primo Carnera" and the Classification 9-16 games in Cividale del Friuli's Palazzetto dello Sport.
