Line up confirmed for FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2023 in Hungary
DEBRECEN (Hungary) - The path to the trophy for the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2023 has been determined as the groups for the 16th edition of the event were confirmed in Tuesday’s draw.
DEBRECEN (Hungary) - The path to the trophy for the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2023 has been determined as the groups for the 16th edition of the event were confirmed in Tuesday's draw in Debrecen, Hungary.
The 16 teams were divided into four groups of four teams each.
The results of the draw are as follows:
Group A: Canada, France, China and Spain
Group B: Lebanon, USA, Madagascar and Slovenia
Group C: Serbia, Japan, Brazil and Egypt
Group D: Argentina, Korea, Hungary and Turkey
All 16 teams participating in the event will advance to the competition's Final Phase with a single-elimination format in place from the Round of 16 onwards.
The teams from Group A will face teams from Group B, based on standings within these groups (1st vs 4th - 2nd vs 3rd) and teams from Group C will face teams from Group D.
Eight different countries have won the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup since its inception in 1979, with the reigning champions USA leading the field with eight titles, including four of the last five editions. The Americans defeated France 83-81 in a very exciting 2021 Final in Riga, Latvia.
The draw was performed by basketball legend Dino Radja and former Hungarian national team player Robert Gulyas.
The 2023 edition of the tournament will take place from June 24-July 2 in Debrecen, Hungary.
