HERAKLION (Greece) - The Round of 16 field is set and the teams know who they must beat to win the title at the FIBA U19 Basketball World 2019 after the Group Phase was completed - with a re-match of the 2017 U19 World Cup Semi-Finals between defending champions Canada and United States not possible until the Final.
United States, Canada, Argentina and Serbia won their respective groups - USA, Argentina and Serbia all with 3-0 records. Defending champions Canada took first place in a thrilling Group B, finishing with the best point differential in a three-way tie between teams at 2-1, Australia's victory over Mali giving the North Americans the top spot.
The United States, looking to win their seventh U19 World Cup crown, will face off against Latvia, with the winner of that game then playing the victor of the Round of 16 showdown between Russia and China. The top half of the bracket also features the enticing showdown of Lithuania v Australia while Philippines play against Serbia.
The other half of the bracket sees Mali take on New Zealand, with a date against the winner between Argentina and Puerto Rico in the Quarter-Finals in the balance. Canada will go up against a winless Senegal team, while the other Round of 16 encounter has hosts Greece battling with France.
