RIGA (2016 FIBA U17 Women's World Championship) - Ahead of their historic maiden appearance at the FIBA U17 Women's World Championship, Latvia are nearing their final roster for Zaragoza.

Having previously cast their net widely via an initial 23-strong candidate list, head coach Liga Alilujeva has since used a training camp to preside over a cull to 16 contenders.

The list is headlined by the likes of Aleksa Gulbe and Luize Septe, who are expected to carry the bulk of the newcomers hopes as they get ready to record a global youth debut.

Septe led her team in assists in Matosinhos last year, while Gulbe was the top scorer and rebounder.

The pair are joined by eight other members of the team who carried their country to fifth place at the FIBA U16 Women’s European Championship 2015, including Marianna Klavina and Kaita Salcevica who bring a threat from downtown.

Latvia will go up against Canada, Japan and Nigeria in Group A.
