SANTO DOMINGO (FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2018) - David Jones was among five players from the U16 Americas 2017 squad that are included on Alex Arias' Dominican Republic team for the U17 World Cup.
Jones, who was the Dominicans' leading scorer at the U16 Americas tournament with 19.0 points to go with 6.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals, will probably be one of the team leaders. He will also come into the tournament with the experience of playing at the just-completed FIBA U18 Americas Championship 2018. In Canada, Jones averaged 10.0 points, 3.7 rebounds 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals in less than 17 minutes despite not turning 17 until late November.

Also with him from the U16 Americas team that finished fifth were Giancarlo Bastianoni, Enmanuel Ferreras, 2003-born Jean Montero, and Emmanuel Rodriguez.
The trio of Lorenzo Baldera, Giancarlo Valdez and Richard Ortega meanwhile helped the Dominicans to a second-placed showing at the 2016 Centrobasket U15 Championship.

Dominican Republic have been drawn into Group A with Australia, Puerto Rico and Turkey. The tournament will run from June 30-July 8 in Rosario and Santa Fe, Argentina.
