Sweden sets new FIBA Women's EuroBasket Qualifiers attendance record

STOCKHOLM (Sweden) - A new high tide mark was set for attendance at a FIBA Women's EuroBasket Qualifiers game after 9,425 fans watched Sweden take on Latvia inside the Avicii Arena.

STOCKHOLM (Sweden) - A new high tide mark was set for attendance at a FIBA Women's EuroBasket Qualifiers game after 9,425 fans watched Sweden take on Latvia at the Avicii Arena.

In addition to breaking the all-time Qualifiers record, the number nearly doubled the previous high for a women's basketball game in Sweden.

It is also the third highest all-time attendance for a Swedish national team game on home soil – men or women. The game was the first time the Swedish women's national team played at the country's largest indoor venue, the Avicii Arena.

Despite the ferocious local support, it was the visitors who took home the spoils, Latvia emerging victorious 71-65 in a close game.

Since the introduction of the new competition system in 2015, the biggest FIBA Women's EuroBasket Qualifiers crowd was previously registered in Cluj-Napoca for the game between Romania and Turkey in February 2016, with 6,817 spectators in attendance.
