Road to FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2023 hits one-year-to-go milestone

LJUBLJANA & TEL AVIV (Slovenia & Israel) - The start of FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2023 is exactly one year away on Wednesday.

LJUBLJANA & TEL AVIV (Slovenia & Israel) - The start of FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2023 is exactly one year away on Wednesday and we enter the final stretch of the road that leads to the tip-off of the eagerly-anticipated tournament on June 15, 2023.

Israel and Slovenia will co-host the 39th edition of Europe's flagship women's basketball competition, with Tel Aviv playing host to two groups and Ljubljana providing the stage for the other two groups, as well as for the Final Phase.

    ...

"There are only 365 days remaining until FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2023 and the excitement around this truly big event is now more palpable that ever," said FIBA Executive Director Europe Kamil Novak.

"Expectations are justifiably very high, in both host countries and around the continent, and I am certain the tournament is going to meet and exceed them."

The prestigious tournament will culminate with the Final on June 25, 2023 in Ljubljana's Stozice Arena, which was famously the Final Round venue of FIBA EuroBasket 2013.

A total of 16 nations will compete for the trophy, with the field of contenders that will make the trip to Israel and Slovenia to be finalized upon the conclusion of the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2023 Qualifiers in February 2023.

The two host nations are at this point the only teams already assured of a berth, while the remaining 14 tickets are still up for grabs for the other teams competing in the Qualifiers.

FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2023 will mark the fourth time in competition history that the event will take place in more than one country. The most recent edition of course, in 2021, was co-hosted by France and Spain and finished with Serbia being proclaimed champions in Valencia.
