Palau sets all-time FIBA Women's EuroBasket appearance record

VALENCIA (Spain) - Spanish star Laia Palau will become the All-Time leader in appearances at the FIBA Women's EuroBasket when she steps out for Spain against Sweden in Valencia.

VALENCIA (Spain) - Spanish star Laia Palau has become the all-time appearance leader at the FIBA Women's EuroBasket after marking her 69th game in the tournament opener against Belarus.

The playmaker, who is appearing at her 10th edition of the prestigious event surpassed FIBA Hall of Fame member and women's basketball legend Uliana Semjonova.

Prior to stepping out against Sweden on Friday and becoming the first player to reach the landmark of 70 appearances, Palau was presented with an award presented by Spanish Basketball Federation President Jorge Garbajosa and FIBA Executive Director Europe Kamil Novak in a special ceremony to honor her accomplishment.

Palau is also the all-time leader in the competition in both assists and steals - looking back from the 1995 edition onwards when data was first available in these categories. Her first appearance in the competition was back in 2003 and she is currently taking part in her 10th edition of the competition, with only Semjonova having also attained that impressive feat.

The amazing journey of Palau through those 10 FIBA Women's EuroBasket events has also been documented in photos.
