BUENOS AIRES (FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2017) - Argentina, Canada and Puerto Rico have earned tickets to play for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2018 in Spain.
Led offensively by 16 points from Nirra Fields and 2015 AmeriCup MVP Kia Nurse respectively, the Canadians booked their trip back to the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2018 with an 84-45 Semi-Final win over Brazil. The AmeriCup defending champs jumped to a 12-point lead after a 24-12 first quarter. Canada maintained a high-octane offensive with valuable contributions from Miranda Ayim, who added 15 points and captured 8 rebounds. The Canadians never looked back and secured the qualification.

Argentina booked their ticket to Spain 2018 with a 48-44 Semi-Final win over Puerto Rico. Agostina Burani was instrumental in the Argentinian victory with a 26-point and 12-rebound double-double performance. The host of the Women's AmeriCup 2017 took full advantage of a slow start from the Boricuas and escaped to a comfortable lead. Puerto Rico fought back, cut the lead to 4 points, but then appeared the mystical figure of Burani, who secured the win for the Argentinians.

Puerto Rico secured a historic first-ever appearance in FIBA's flagship women's competition by beating Brazil 75-68 in the 3rd Place Game. Led offensively by 19 points from Allison Gibson, the Puerto Ricans came from behind and took the top of the scoreboard during the second half. Brazil fought hard, but the Boricuas secured the momentous win from the free-throw line.

Fourteen of the 16 participants for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2018 are now known, with the remaining two to come from the FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017 taking place in Bamako, Mali from August 18-27.
