Australia schedule rematch with Japan, advances to Semi-finals with Korea

The Philippines came away with their first win of the Women’s Asia Cup against hosts India, 92-78. The victory seals them a 7th place finish at the Women’s Asia Cup with 6 players finishing in double-digit scoring, led by their star scorer Janine Pontejos who scored 18 points. Jack Animam had her breakout game with 7 points and 13 points.
Korea got out to a quick start against New Zealand and their held the lead until the final buzzer, 58-52. Penina Davidson enjoyed a great game with 12 points on 6-7 field goal shooting and 6 rebounds but it was just not enough to hold back Korea on their way to the Semi-finals.
Kang Leeseul had an all-around game for Korea putting up 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists in the win. Bae Hyehoon and Youm Yun Ah also put up double-digit scoring for Korea in their win.
Australia rebounded from a heartbreaking loss to China by pounding Chinese Taipei 90-51 on their way to the Semi-finals.
All but one of the Opals got their name on the scoreboard, except for Leilani Mitchell. 5 players ended up scoring in double-digits, led by Rebecca Allen who scored 15 points on 8 shots.
Australia shot 52.9 percent from the field while Chinese Taipei managed only 23.3 percent, ending up in a landslide win for the 2017 finalists.
Korea book a trip to the Semi-finals to face China, while Australia get their 2017 Finals rematch against Japan.
New Zealand will play Chinese Taipei at 15:30 (GMT +5.5) tomorrow to determine whoever ends up at 5th place.
The first ticket to the Women’s Asia Cup finals will be decided in a classis showdown between 2017 finalists Australia and Japan at 17:45 (GMT +5.5). Joining the winner of this game in the championship game will be the victor of the game between China and Korea who play at 20:00 (GMT +5.5).
