MIAMI (United States) – The excitement around the 2023 FIBA Women's AmeriCup is growing stronger with each passing day. On Wednesday May 10th the official event draw will take place in Miami for the event to be played July 1-9 at Domo de la Feria in León, Guanajuato, Mexico.

The ceremony will have the presence of two very especial guests and world women's basketball stars from the Americas. FIBA Hall of Fame member Janeth Arcain from Brazil and Women's Basketball Hall of Famer Swin Cash (United States) will be on the stage during the process that will determine the tournament's groups.

During her professional career, Arcain led Brazil to the 1994 FIBA Women's World Cup. She also won two Olympic medals: silver at the 1996 Atlanta Games and bronze at Sydney 2000. At Athens 2004, where they finished fourth, she became the all-time Olympic leading scorer with 535 – a record that stood until 2012.

At FIBA Women's AmeriCup, she lifted the trophy during the 2003 edition in Culiacán, Mexico after defeating Cuba in the final.

The Sao Paulo-born star, widely considered one of the best players in the history of her country and the continent, also excelled in the WNBA, the best league in the world. She made her debut during the inaugural 1997 season with the Houston Comets. Arcain was a key piece of the Comets dynasty that won four consecutive titles from 1997-2000.

Meanwhile, Cash is a two-time gold medalist with the United States (Athens 2004 and London 2012). Her resume also includes a FIBA AmeriCup title in 2007 in Valdivia, Chile, where she was part of a squad that featured Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird, Tina Thompson and Candace Parker.

She won three WNBA titles, two with Detroit Shock (2003 and 2006) and one with Seattle Storm (2010). She was also an All-Star in 2003, 2005, 2009 and 2011.

Cash also won two NCAA titles (2000 and 2002) at the University of Connecticut and is considered one of the most successful players both on and off the court. She founded two charity institutions and until 2021, when she was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, acted as a VP of Operations with the NBA's New Orleans Pelicans.

The official 2023 FIBA AmeriCup drawing will start at 3:00 p.m., local Miami time.
