    FIBA Women's AmeriCup set to return to Mexico after 10 years

    Miami (United States) – The FIBA regional office in the Americas and the Asociación Deportiva Mexicana de Básquetbol announced that León, Guanajuato will be the host city for the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2023

    MIAMI (United States) – The FIBA regional office in the Americas and the Asociación Deportiva Mexicana de Básquetbol (ADEMEBA) announced that León, Guanajuato will be the host city for the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2023. The event will take place from July 1st to the 9th with games to be played at the legendary Domo de la Feria. This is the second time Mexico will be hosting this elite event, the first was in Xalapa, Veracruz in 2013. 

    ADEMEBA, who recently celebrated the successful qualification of their men’s national team to the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, will now witness their women’s national team play at home and host the premier national team event of women’s basketball in the Americas.

    “ADEMEBA has been a consistent host for junior events in the Americas and they are now ready to host the premier women’s event in the Americas, the 2023 Women’s AmeriCup. We look forward to seeing the elite players from the Americas in Leon as they compete for the honor of being the AmeriCup Champion. Thanks to everyone at ADEMBA and the local authorities in Leon, Guanajuato for hosting this event,” said FIBA Americas President Carol Callan. 

    Ten teams will participate in this year’s FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2023. Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and the host nation Mexico are the four teams who qualified through the Centrobasket Women’s Championships. The top four teams who qualified from the South American Women’s Championship are Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, and Venezuela. Canada and USA will complete the 10 teams and be part of the field for this event.

    The draw for the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2023 is scheduled for May in Miami, Florida where two groups of five teams will be drawn to set the field for the event in July.
