The 12-team Bamako showdown will run from Friday, August 18-27, and the Central Africans would need to succeed in Group A, where they will face hosts Mali, Angola, Central African Republic, Cote d'Ivoire and Tunisia.
Talking to local paper Head coach Pepouna Souleyman acknowledged the challenges they face.
"It is a tough group," Souleyman said. "Mali is a basketball nation. Then, we have Angola, who has won a number of African champions (two), and it is a formidable team. After that, we have regulars Cote d'Ivoire who have competed at every Women's Afrobasket (they missed out on qualification two years ago). The Central African Republic is the unknown team so far but who beat the DR Congo in the qualifiers. And, finally, there is Tunisia who have rebuilt their team.
However, Souleyman noted, "we have good weapons to compete."
