SAN JUAN (Puerto Rico) - The best players in the region are pumped up and ready to put on a show at the FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup 2024 on December 12-15. There are plenty of wonder women to choose from, but we've narrowed it down to five that you just have to watch in the fourth edition of the AmeriCup.
Britnney Sykes (USA)
The USA are looking to defend their crown with a new-look line-up. But they will once again start as favorites as they unleash a new band of WNBA stars led by Washington Mystics dynamo Britnney Sykes, who is out to dominate the half-court.
She is an absolute beast having long been a defensive menace in the WNBA, but she also has handles to die for. Sykes is going to perform plenty of tricks with the Wilson in her hands.
Katherine Plouffe (Canada)
It's been another brilliant year for this Canadian 3x3 legend and she wants to finish 2024 with a bang. She won't have her sibling Michelle by her side this time around, but K. Plouffe is more than capable of packing a solo punch.
The 6ft.3in (1.9m) scoring machine was among the leaders of the main stats in the Women's Series to underline why she is ranked No.3 in the world. She just might be the favorite for the MVP and if she does that then you know Plouffe will be singing 'Oh Canada' all night long in San Juan.
Ziomara Morrison (Chile)
Chile finished 4th in a barnstorming run at last year's event but will be dreaming of a podium finish this time around. Their hopes might rest with Ziomara Morrison, who is an absolutely devastating scoring weapon. At 6ft 5in (1.95m), Morrison can obviously make the paint her personal playground, but she also has range. It's quite unfair! Morrison is an inside-outside threat making her unguardable as opponents will soon find out in San Juan.
Ashley Torres (Puerto Rico)
The crowd will go crazy every time their heroes step on the half-court and the loudest cheers will be reserved for Ashley Torres, who will be tasked with inspiring her team to go all the way.
The speedy 5ft.9in (1.75m) Torres was unstoppable at times during the Women's Series and when she gets going from deep it's lights out. With feverish support, Torres could well get on a heater and that will be a sight to behold.
Luana de Souza (Brazil)
Brazil have finished with silver in every edition so far, but this time they want gold. The 5ft.9in (1.77m) de Souza has been part of their last two silver medal campaigns and she's determined to create history for her beloved Brazil.
Her energy sparks this Americas powerhouse and she is a two-way presence who does all the little things that makes her a natural born winner.
