Meet the FIBA WASL Gulf teams: Kuwait Club

BEIRUT (Lebanon) - Kuwait Club's eyes are on the ultimate prize, no doubt, in the FIBA WASL Season 2.

BEIRUT (Lebanon) - Kuwait Club's eyes are on the ultimate prize, no doubt.

One of those headlining the cast of returnees for FIBA WASL Season 2, the team is eager to take home the coveted trophy this time around after falling short of doing so in the inaugural tilt.

Winners of the maiden Gulf League, Kuwait Club weren't able to achieve a 'double' as they bowed to Manama - the team they beat en route to the sub-zone title - in the Final 8 finale in Dubai last June.

There's just no shortage of motivation for the crew this season.

    History

Known for its immensely successful football club, Kuwait Sports Club have been in existence for over 60 years now and are synonymous to winning. Their basketball team is no different, for it is the most decorated side in the Kuwaiti Division 1 Basketball League with 14 national championships.

Kuwait SC also has numerous domestic titles in such a rich collection, such as the Kuwaiti Cup of Martyr Fahed al Ahmad, the Federation Cup, and the Super Cup.

Not only that. They have won the Arab Club Basketball Championship in 2022 to become the first team from Kuwait to cop an Arab title. Their regional success would continue, as mentioned above, in the FIBA WASL inaugurals by winning the Gulf League crown via 10-0 sweep.

    Homecourt

The team plays their home games at the Shaikh Saad Alabdullah Sport Hall Complex in Kuwait City, which is once again ready to host FIBA WASL games in the new season ahead.

    Path to FIBA WASL

Kuwait Club secured their place in FIBA WASL Season 2 by conquering the 2022-23 Kuwaiti Division 1 Basketball League, beating Kazma in the Final for the third straight time.

    Players to watch

Kuwait Club will be parading new reinforcement Tony Carr in Season 2. Once the Mr. Pennsylvania Basketball, the 26-year-old guard has been playing pro ball since 2018, and will also bring with him the experiences he gained from the Basketball Champions League 2023 with the Bakken Bears.

He'll be joining a team who retained practically the same squad that played in Season 1, bannered by the grizzled tandem of Cady Lalanne and Marcus Georges-Hunt.

Not to be forgotten, of course, are the ever-reliable locals such as the Hasan Bros. Hamad and Mohammad, and young bigs Omran Jawhar and Mustafa Matwali, to name some.
