VILLENEUVE D'ASCQ (France) - Villeneuve d'Ascq LM are EuroCup Women champions for a second time after they defeated BAXI Ferrol in the Finals.
The French side backed up a narrow first leg victory on the road with an 84-70 success in front of their home fans to seal a 162-145 triumph on aggregate.
Villeneuve d'Ascq LM had been runners-up in EuroLeague Women last season, but ensured they closed out the Finals on this occasion - adding to the title they won in this competition a decade ago.
Carla Leite was named Finals MVP after an explosive first leg performance of 25 points was followed by a 16-point effort along with 7 assists in the reverse fixture.
It ended an impressive run from Spanish rookies Ferrol, who had started their debut season in the competition in the Qualifiers. They had strong performances from the likes of Angela Mataix and Claire Melia, but came up short.
For Villeneuve, they become the third team to win the competition on more than one occasion - joining Dynamo Moscow and Galatasaray in the exclusive club.
