SINGAPORE -  Vietnam (men) and Indonesia (women) clutched up in must-win games to earn qualification on Day 2 of the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2025 on March 27.

    TEAMS

    VIETNAM (men)

Splitting results on Day 1 in QD action, Vietnam were faced with a mammoth task of taking down the on-fire Thailand in their sole game of the second day. It would have to be a mathematical win as well, needing a 6-point or over advantage to earn qualification. It was a tall ask, but they pulled through.

They found themselves in a back-and-forth battle for the most part, with scores level all the way until 10 apiece, they needed an outburst and it came via Chris Dierker. He caught on fire for Vietnam from deep, drilling three twos in a row, followed by the all-important and-one two at 20-15, putting him on the line for the win. He made the free throw to earn his term the needed 21 - 15 victory to book them a spot in the Main Draw.

Other teams to go through to the pool stage are India, Iran and Hong Kong, China.

    INDONESIA (women)

It wasn’t the perfect day for the women from Indonesia. They started the day with a narrow OT loss to Turkmenistan. Nothing short of a victory against a favorites-to-qualify Macau would suffice.

In a must-win game, Indonesia came up big. Natasya Amelia Putri and Thasya Henry Saputera made clutch shots from deep while Angelica Jennifer Candra worked inside.

A late flurry saw them go from down one at 13 - 12 to a runaway 22 - 13 victors.

Republic of Korea, Vietnam and Chinese Taipei also earned qualification.

    PLAYERS

    MOHAMMADSINA VAHEDI (Iran)

There was no answer for Iran’s Vahedi on Day 2.

The Iranian squad went 2-0 in dominant fashion, much thanks to the offensive showcase by the 24 year-old. He put up an impressive 12 points in their 21 - 6 win over Kazakhstan before putting up another 10-point game in their 21-8 victory over Papua New Guinea.

The team’s on a roll heading into pool play with the Vahedi-led offense paying dividends.

    Chih-Jung Ting (Chinese Taipei)

Chinese Taipei finished with a 3-0 record, with two of the wins coming tonight. They relied on the consistent Chih-Jung Ting to deliver on both ends of the floor.

They defeated India 17 - 13, Ting putting up a team-high 7 points before she did the same in their 19 - 17 OT thriller against Hong Kong, China. She was the one to cap things off with a scintillating behind the back winning lay for the all-important result to take them through to the main draw.
