CARACAS (2009 FIBA Americas Championship for Women) - The Venezuelan national team that will play in the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship for Women is practicing in Caracas and is improving every day says their technical staff.
The team coached by Eduardo Gil has played against teams from different categories in order to improve their offensive and defensive schemes for the tournament that qualifies the top three teams for the 2010 FIBA World Championship for Women to be played in the Czech Republic.
"They have improved a lot in all aspects since we started the practices. There are some minor details that should be improved and we are working on them. We hope that those deficiencies get fixed before we play in Brazil," said assistant coach Alecia Landaeta.
The players practicing are: Roselis Silva, Yoseimar Díaz, María Requena, Fanny Díaz, Sharol Renault, Jofranny Guerra, Ayalexis Ilarraza, Enmy Blanco, María Ofelia Villarroel, María Cabrices and Cleider Blanco. Blanco will join the team in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, Brazil before the start of the tournament which is scheduled to be played from September 23-27.
Venezuela is in Group B along with Argentina, Chile and Cuba. Group A has Brazil, Canada, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
