NEW YORK (FIBA) - Terry Lyons, Vice President of International Communications for the NBA and well-known figure within the FIBA family, announced yesterday his decision to leave the organization where he has worked for the past 26 years at the end of this current, 2006-2007, NBA season.
The internationally well-respected executive, who plans to relocate with his family in the New England region, is a familiar face within the FIBA family after being an integral part of USA Basketball’s Communications/Public Relations team, alongside Craig Miller and Brian McIntyre, since the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.
A graduate of St. John’s University in New York, where he earned his degree in Sports Management, Lyons currently oversees all NBA communications, public relations and media activities outside the United States and is responsible, among other duties, for all international public relations activities generated in the NBA’s headquarters in New York and New Jersey.
Lyons began his career at the NBA as an intern in 1981. He held the post of Director of Media Relations from 1989 to 1993 before being promoted to Vice President. In addition, he has worked in conjunction with USA Basketball and the International Basketball Federation on the past four Olympic Basketball Tournaments and FIBA World Championships.
