LAS VEGAS (2010 FIBA World Championship) - Hoops fans in Istanbul will be in for a real treat this summer with USA Basketball set to make some glamorous additions to their national team squad.
The NBA's Rookie of the Year, Tyreke Evans, and the man he beat to the honor, Golden State's sharpshooting Stephen Curry, are expected to be included in the USA group for 2010-12.
USA Basketball will hold a press conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, at 11am local time on Tuesday to name several additions to the national team squad and also reveal their training plans for the FIBA World Championship.
USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo and Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski, who coaches Curry’s brother Seth at Duke University, will be at the press conference along with Las Vegas Events president Pat Christenson and a USA Basketball Men’s national team player.
The United States, who won the gold medal at the 2008 Olympics, have yet to announce the make-up of their squad for Turkey.
Some players have yet to commit with free agency looming while different issues may keep others off the court.
Guards Evans and Curry set the NBA alight this season after joining Sacramento and Golden State as lottery picks from the University of Memphis and Davidson College, respectively.
Evans, 20, averaged 20.1 points, 5.8 assists and 5.3 rebounds per game for Sacramento.
Curry, who played for the United States at the 2007 FIBA U19 World Championship for Men in Serbia, poured in 17.5 points, handed out 5.9 assists and grabbed 4.5 rebounds per game for Golden State.
He shot a scintillating 43.7% from three-point range for the Warriors.
Oklahoma City's 6ft 9in forward Jeff Green is also expected to be added to the squad.
The 23-year-old averaged 15.1 points and 6.0 rebounds per game this season for the Thunder.
The United States will be the gold-medal favorites heading to the FIBA World Championship.
They will take on Slovenia, Brazil, Croatia, Iran and Tunisia in Group B.
Those Preliminary Round games will be played in Istanbul.
