LOS ANGELES (NCAA)- JJ Redick edged out Gonzaga's Adam Morrison for the Wooden Award, which was presented on Saturday at the Los Angeles Athletic Club.

Named after legendary UCLA coach John R Wooden, the honour is given annually to the nation's top men's basketball player.

The all-time leading scorer in Atlantic Coast Conference history, Redick won college basketball's other major Player of the Year honor - the Naismith Award - last week.

Redick is the fourth Blue Devil in eight years to win the Wooden Award, following Jason Williams (2002), Shane Battier (2001) and Elton Brand (1999).

The Duke senior is in the 23-man strong Team USA and will try out for a place in their squad which travels to Japan later this year for the FIBA World Championship.

Forward Seimone Augustus of Louisiana State earned the women's Wooden Award for the second straight year.

The honour for Augustus comes three days after she was selected number one overall in the WNBA draft by the Minnesota Lynx.

Augustus led the nation in scoring this season at 22.7 points per game as the Lady Tigers reached the Final Four for the second straight season.

Guards Cappie Pondexter of Rutgers and Monique Curry of Duke were among the women finalists.
