MINNESOTA (WNBA) - USA star Maya Moore has become the first woman basketball player to get an endorsement deal with Nike's famed Jordan brand, named after and inspired by basketball great Michael Jordan.

The deal is believed to be worth $3 to 4 million a year.

Moore helped the USA to a gold medal in last year's FIBA World Championship in the Czech Republic and was the only collegiate player on the team.

In April, she was selected with the first overall pick by the Minnesota Linx in the 2011 WNBA Draft.

During her four years at the University of Connecticut, she won back-to-back national championships (2009, 2010) and was the national player of the year on two occasions.

The 21-year-old wears the number 23 jersey like Jordan and is regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in women's basketball.

"As a student of the game, it is a dream come true to align myself with a brand that has a rich history in sports,” Moore said.

"Like most kids, I grew up idolising Michael Jordan and continue to work relentlessly to reach his iconic status on the court."

Jordan welcomed Moore to his brand, one which is already endorsed by such sporting greats as Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul and Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees.

"I am thrilled to welcome Maya Moore into the Jordan brand," said the two-time Olympic champion.

"Not only has Maya proven to be a prolific winner on the court, but her hunger and determination to make an impact off the court makes her a valuable addition to the Jordan family."
