VALDIVIA (FIBA Americas Championship for Women) - The United States defeated Brazil 83-72 in both sides' final warm-up game ahead of the FIBA Americas Championship for Women.

Candance Parker top-scored with 19 points to guide Anne Donovan's USA to victory while Iziane Marques poured in 18 points for Brazil.

Brazil coach Paulo Bassul was satisfied with the performance of his team despite the defeat.

"The team showed attitude during the 40 minutes," he said. "We rotated players and managed to overcome the absence of Karla, who has a minor foot injury.

"We are heading in the right direction. We still have to improve, but the way we played was worthy."

United States open their FIBA Americas Championship campaign against Cuba on Wednesday, while Brazil meet arch-rivals Argentina on the same day.

The winner of the tournament qualify to the Olympic Games in Beijing next year while the runners-up and losing semi-finalists enter an additional qualifying tournament.
