Ulinzi complete Semi-Final line-up
DAR ES SALAAM(FIBA Africa Champions Cup 2016) - Kenyan side Ulinzi booked their Semi-Final place at the FIBA Africa Zone 5 qualifiers for the African Champions Cup 2016
DAR ES SALAAM(FIBA Africa Champions Cup 2016) - Kenyan side Ulinzi booked their Semi-Final place at the FIBA Africa Zone 5 qualifiers for the African Champions Cup 2016 after City Oilers of Uganda defeated Rwandan side Espoir 78-54 on Wednesday at the National Stadium.
The tie was a do or die for Espoir but they found themselves between a rock and a hard place as early as the first quarter when they trailed 31-11 and eventually 46-25 at the Half-Time.
City Oilers center Kami Kabangu and Espoir center Bienvenue Ngandu, best friends off court, were at it in the paint but the rest of the match ups on court were outrightly dominated by the Ugandan champions who are yet to lose a game at the regional tournament.
In a game where, City Oilers coach Mandy Juruni chose to rest his big guns, Espoir failed to capitalise on this and despite limiting their opponents to only four points in the last quarter, the damage was already done.
Stanley Ociti scored a game high 18 points while point guard Ben Komakech and Jimmy Enabu contributed 17 and 12 points in that order to inspire the City Oilers to their fourth straight convincing win.
"We managed to win all our group games to finish top of Group B which is very good for us but now we are into the next stage which is very very important against USIU. We want to win every game. We also want to play better and better," Juruni told FIBA.com.
City Oilers will face USIU of Kenya in the second Semi-Final on Thursday while Ulinzi take on the unbeaten Rwandan side Patriots.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Egau sunk 25 points to inspire the UCU Canons to their second win at the tournament after defeating National Engineering of South Sudan 65-50 in the last Group A tie to finish fifth on the table standings with a 2-2 ratio.
ABC of Tanzania edged South Sudan outfit Citizen 80-79 for their first Group B win in a tightly contested encounter much to the contentment of the home crowd.
UCU will face ABC in the classification for 7-8 positions while winless National Engineering and Citizen face off in the battle for 9-10 positions in the ultimate South Sudan derby.
The winner of this tournament will represent Zone 5 at the Africa Champions Cup set for December.
