ISTANBUL (EuroBasket Women) - Turkish basketball has a very important few weeks coming up.
The country was named in March as hosts of the 2014 FIBA World Championship for Women and on Saturday, Turkey will begin playing at the EuroBasket Women in Poland.
Looking to build momentum for 2014, Turkey’s aim in Poland is to finish in the top five and earn a place in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
Turkey coach Ceyhun Yildizoglu said: "The goal we've said from the very beginning is the top five.
"We know this is difficult, but not impossible.
"We will do everything to achieve this goal.
"I trust my players.
"All of them are well-intentioned and hardworking."
Turkey are in Group A of the EuroBasket Women and will take on Lithuania on Saturday, Slovakia on Sunday and Russia on Monday.
A top three-finish would allow the team to advance to face the top three sides that come from a Group B that includes Belarus, the Czech Republic, Israel and Great Britain.
