The Canadians led 37-24 at halftime and held their opponents to just 27 percent shooting (six of 35 shooting from the field) over the course of the first two quarters, leaving them with a tough task.
The Turks improved quite a bit offensively after the break, but at the other end of the court still had no answer for the Canadians who played patiently and had great execution.
Quotes
Jacqueline Lavallee (Canada head coach): It’s definitely good to have the first game in your pocket. The first game is always tough. It has been a couple of days that we have been preparing for this game.
Hasan Firat Okul (Turkey head coach): We didn’t do what we wanted. We didn’t handle the game as we wanted because it’s always hard to start a big competition like the world championship. We must forget this game and think about the next one.
