Top players to watch at FIBA 3x3 World Tour Marseille Masters 2024

MARSEILLE (France) - After a breather, the FIBA 3x3 World Tour 2024 returns with an absolutely loaded Marseille Masters on May 31-June 1.

MARSEILLE (France) - After a breather, the FIBA 3x3 World Tour 2024 returns with an absolutely loaded Marseille Masters on May 31-June 1.

Here are the best of the best ready to lace up for the second Masters of the season.

    Dejan Majstorovic (Ub Huishan NE)

We have to start with a dude who just keeps getting better than ever. The man you know as the 'Maestro' once again lived up to his famous nickname with a spectacular performance at the Utsunomiya Opener

But he left unusually disappointed after No.1 seed Ub Huishan NE (SRB) fell short to rival Miami (USA) in a classic final. You just know that he will be out to fire his bullets and he'll shoulder more of the burden with the game's best player Strahinja Stojacic absent.

But we've seen time and time again Majstorovic rise to the occasion, so expect this 3x3 legend to be at his very best as he strives to lead Ub to a title defense.

    Jimmer Fredette (Miami)

Is there a new top dog in 3x3? We can't quite give Stojacic the flick given his utter domination over the last couple of seasons.

But this former NBA player is hot on his heels after Fredette's MVP performance in Utsunomiya landed an early blow. With Stojacic not in Marseille, Fredette has a chance to inch closer to grabbing the championship belt for best player alive.

Fredette can scarily get even better after shooting 32% from 2 in Utsunomiya - a good number for mere mortals but below par for the hottest shooter 3x3 has ever seen.

If he gets cooking in Marseille then it might be a wrap and back-to-back MVPs for a dude who should be renamed Jimmer Buckets.

    ...

    Worthy de Jong (Amsterdam)

The Dutchman has a love affair with Marseille after racking up a historic performance last year with an absolutely insane 59 points.

He always has swag on the half-court, but de Jong will have an extra pep in his step after leading the Netherlands to the Paris Olympics.

That means you can expect his special concoction of insane dunks, trippy handles and aerial acrobatics in Marseille as he aims to lead Amsterdam one better than last year.

    ...

    Thibaut Vervoort (Riffa)

The brilliant Belgian is enjoying playing in new colors and teaming up with his compatriots.

But most of all he's enjoyed being 'Must See TV' after dripping wet in Utsunomiya to continue his strong early season form on the pro circuit.

Vervoort was unstoppable when he drove to the rim and if he can find the radar from long-range then he might just deliver Riffa a first World Tour title.

    Nico Kaltenbrunner (Vienna)

The speedster will make his World Tour season debut and he might just ignite Vienna (AUT), who were knocked out in the quarters in Utsunomiya.

He can drive past taller opponents like the speed of light, but can also stop on a spot and nail the J. Kaltenbrunner also loves the ball in his hands when the game is on the line as he showed for Austria during the recent Olympic Qualifying Tournament

But the 24-year-old loves nothing more than setting up teammates with a dish so tasty that it should be served on a plate.

    Evaldas Dziaugys (Raudondvaris Hoptrans)

If you didn't know it already, this lethal Lithuanian is an absolute scoring machine. He became a household name in his hoops crazy country after helping Lithuania qualify for the Paris Olympics.

The talented 27-year-old has enjoyed shifting to Lithuania's premier 3x3 team - Raudondvaris Hoptrans (LTU), where he has teamed up superbly with superstar Aurelijus Pukelis.

They've become such a devastating duo that they really should have been cast in Bad Boys: Ride or Die

    Marko Stevanovic (Liman)

The big fella knows how to perform on the big stage after being a former Masters MVP.

He might just prove to be the most important recruit having switched Serbian teams from Partizan to Liman, where he has breathed new life into this legendary 3x3 team.

Stevanovic has already developed chemistry with Liman's long-time superstars Mihailo Vasic and Stefan Kojic in an ominous sign for opponents.

    ...

    Franck Seguela (Paris)

The Frenchman will be the main attraction for the diehard fans in Marseille. France's No.1 ranked player will be out to show off his sublime skills, where he has ridiculous mobility for a dude standing 6ft.7in (2m).

Seguela was on a roll in late 2023 and he continued the momentum having helped France clinch a ticket to the Paris Olympics at the OQT.

He's a born winner and a natural entertainer as he looks to put on a show in front of the French faithful.

    Fabian Giessmann (St Pauli)

This is fast becoming the breakout year for Fabian Giessmann. But real ones would have already pencilled that in because the athletic 18-year-old has long been hyped as the next big thing.

The hype is very real because Giessmann showed no nerves as he utterly dominated at the OQT.

The teen is now ready to take his talents to the World Tour, where he will make his Masters debut in Marseille and lead emerging St Pauli (GER).

The excitement is in overdrive and you better jump on board quickly before the bandwagon is full.
