ABIDJAN (Coted'Ivoire) - The countdown is on and, three teams Nigeria, Liberia and host Cote d'Ivoire will set machinery in motion for who grabs the sole ticket for the big show in South Africa.

The three countries  are in for tussle to determine who gets the sole ticket to the 2024 FIBA U18 Women's AfroBasket scheduled to take place in Johannesburg,  in South Africa in late August.

This regional qualifier will take place in Abidjan from July 31 to August 4.

It will be a three-way fight and the team that comes up tops will head to South Africa where Angola, Cameroon, Egypt, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Uganda and Zambia are already waiting .

Host Cote d'Ivoire already have two Silver medals so far at the U18s from five appearances and have been longing to make a return to the podium since 2014.

Getting a sixth appearance is a possibility but they need to get past Nigeria and Liberia to make it a reality. They can bank on getting their dreams come true if they face their opponents without fear of who they are.

Nigeria have been to just two previous Final Rounds in 2008 and 2010 with a silver medal to show for it. Since 2010, Nigeria has been absent from the championship and will be eager to return to the spotlight.

Liberia are making a return from a long suspension and the leadership of the Liberia Basketball Association is determined to make an impact with their return to the mainstream of African basketball.

They have been working behind the scene to ensure that the team is ready to make the desired impact.

From the look of things, the three teams may have to play each other to determine a winner.
