The Boyon Dominguez Classic – a golden opportunity for the Dominican Republic's U25

SANTO DOMINGO (Dominican Republic) – Sports authorities in the Dominican Republic have found the perfect way to grant a new opportunity for personal development through sports. The Boyón Domínguez Classic offers this platform to U25 players.
The tournament will take place from Thursday, October 24 to Sunday, December 15.
The president of the Dominican Basketball Federation (Fedombal), Mr. Rafael Uribe, attended the facilities of Club Mauricio Báez in Villa Juana to open the 2019 tournament. This edition will feature 32 teams from different clubs of the National District and will foster a friendly and clean-competition environment.
“[This tournament] will create a space for young players that leave the youth [categories] up to professional teams. This Classic comes to fill this huge void,” said Uribe to FIBA.basketball. “This Classic started out with 16 teams and today has 36. This is the tournament with the greatest number of players younger than 25 in the entire Dominican Republic.”
Among them are some of the national Fedombal program prospects. One of them is 17-year-old Jean Montero, who was active in the U16 Centrobasket in Puerto Rico and later was part of the process of adaptation and playing friendlies with the senior team before the FIBA Basketball World Cup in China.
Also known by the organization as “Torneo de los Barrios” (Neighborhoods Tournament), the competition takes up the name of José “Boyón” Domínguez, a legendary Dominican athlete who’s also the tournament's director.
The Federation's leader, Mr. Uribe, explained that the tournament, besides being a great workshop for players, is a platform to develop the entire technical staff involved, including referees, table officials, coaches and assistants. “I believe that it's a development tournament where referees are also developed. When you talk of 36 teams you also talk about 36 coaches, and each one has two assistants, so we're talking about more than 70 assistants. I want to congratulate the legendary José "Boyón” Domínguez, who’s put everything so this tournament is a complete success, and I would also want to thank the Mauricio Báez Athletic and Cultural Club for their support. The Federation is backing this tournament because it's a great tournament and we hope that next year more teams from other provinces can be a part of it,” Uribe added.
Some of the clubs active in the tournament are:
Pioneros de Villas Agrícolas, Mauricio Báez, María Auxiliadora, Jardines del Norte, San Carlos, Deportivo la Fe, Pueblo Nuevo, Calero, Villa Francisca, Los Alcarrizos, La Ciénaga, Los Prados, Rafael Leónidas, San Lázaro, Víctor Burgos, Rosa Duarte, Simón Bolívar, Progreso, Rottweiler, La Soga, 29 de junio, Rejuvenir, Italia, Reales del Caliche, Bameso, Francia Nueva, Iván Guzmán Klan, San Lázaro, and Rafael Solano.
All games will be live-streamed through the tournament’s official pages, “Clásico Boyón Domínguez” on Facebook and YouTube.
