BARQUISIMETO (2016 South American Women’s) – Brazil defeated Venezuela by the score of 94-75 and won the Gold Medal of the 2016 South American Championship. Iziane was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
It was a complete domination right from tip-off from a Brazilian squad that played to its advantages focusing their offensive attack on establishing a transition game whenever possible and feeding the post in half-court situations.
Iziane was outstanding on the open floor and started the game with 15 points in the first 13 minutes of play, responsible for the 16 point Brazilian lead at the end of the first quarter.

The lead increased in the second quarter due to a suffocating defense by Brazil, especially Palmira, who was responsible for stopping Venezuela’s one-on-one attack led throughout the tournament by Waleska Perez. Brazil led by 30 points at the end of the half, 55-25.
Venezuela tried to battle for the remainder of the game with three-pointers by captain Ivaney Marquez and a resilient Roselis Silva, but it was not enough to come back. Brazil’s had become too big even when the home team made a run to close it to 15 with two minutes to go in the game.
Brazil won it by the score of 94-75 and raised the trophy of the 2016 South American Women’s Championship. This is the 14th consecutive Gold Medal for Brazil.
Iziane led the game with 20 points and was named MVP of the tournament after yet another incredible performance. For Venezuela, Silva was the leading scorer with 18 points.
In the first game of the evening, Colombia pulled off the upset and defeated Argentina by the score of 59-55. Maria Palacio led the Colombians with 17.
