    Colombia and Venezuela advance to Semi-Finals out of Group A

    SUCRE (FIBA U18 Women’s Americas Championship 2018) - Group A is set, victories for Colombia and Venezuela qualified both teams to the Semi-Finals of the South American U17 Women’s Championship. Argentina and Peru picked up wins in Group B.

    Colombia secured a ticket to the Semi-Finals of the South American U17 Women’s Championship after a 33-51 win over Ecuador. The teams matched evenly during the first three quarters, and it was in the last 10 minutes of the game that the Colombians took their game to another level with a 16-3 quarter. Daniela Gonzalez led the offensive attack for the Colombians with 19 points and 9 rebounds.

    With a 71-44 win over Uruguay, Venezuela captured its second win of the South American U17 Women’s Championship and secured a spot in the Semi-Finals of the competition. The Venezuelans dominated from the get-go and established a 19-point lead at the end of the first half. Venezuela kept rolling and celebrated the win, with great contributions from Yulianny Perez, who added 14 points and 5 rebounds.

    Argentina remains perfect, after a 91-37 win over Chile. The team coached by Hernan Amaya jumped right into the game with a 28-9 first quarter and never looked back. The Argentinians scored 42 of their points from the paint and the bench totaled 52 points for the team. Camila Suarez was the top performer for the Argentinians with 14 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists.

    In an overtime classic, Peru defeated host Bolivia 74-71 and leveled its record at 1 win and 1 loss. At the end of the third quarter, Bolivia had secured a 14-point lead, but all that changed after a 25-11 fourth quarter from Peru, that forced the game into overtime. In overtime, Peru took advantage of the height difference and took the ball to the paint, where the team scored 40 of their points. Winning the extra 5 minutes 13-10, secured the win for Peru. Milagros Carrera was the best for Peru with 14 points.

    Tomorrow on the last day of the Group Phase, Uruguay will face Ecuador, Venezuela and Colombia will fight for the top of Group A, Chile will take on Peru and Argentina will face the host Bolivia.

    The top three teams from the South American U17 Women’s Championship will qualify to the FIBA U18 Women’s Americas Championship 2018.
