BANGKOK (Thailand) - Spain (women) and Australia (men) go 2-0 on Day 2 of the FIBA 3x3 Champions Cup 2025 on March 15.
TEAMS
AUSTRALIA (men)
Suffering a tough loss in the opener on Day 1, the Aussies had a tall task ahead of them today, and they came through in spades.
They handled home crowd-supported Thailand with ease in their first game of the day, a 21 - 6 drubbing thanks to a monster 10-point effort from Alex Higgins-Titsha along with 9 points and 7 rebounds from John Dillon Stith.
They faced their toughest contest yet in the United States who had been unbeaten on their way to this matchup. However, it was the Australian side that applied pressure early and kept control.
Jonah Antonio put up 9 points while Stith added 7 to the total as the Aussies came away 21 - 15 victors to book a spot in the semi-finals.
Despite the loss, team USA did enough to earn themselves a place in the semis as well.
In Pool A, the Netherlands and Serbia booked their place in the knockout stage with wins over Madagascar and Austria respectively on Day 2 to seal their place in the table.
SPAIN (women)
Spain were riding high after a strong Day 1 showing against Australia and they continued their stellar display tonight.
It was a hard-fought 17 - 14 win against France to kick things off, a result of a collective tandem offensive effort, with 3 players finishing with 4 points while Cecilia Muhate edged them by a point, notching up 5.
They faced a desperate Thailand next, highly favored by the local crowd. Spain showed no signs of letting up as they came away with a resounding 21 - 8 win. Alba Prieto caught fire from deep as her 4 two-pointers aided by a 6-point, 8-rebound effort from Vega Gimeno proved to be the difference.
A 3-0 pool performance puts them in prime positioning heading into the semis where they’ll take on Germany who battled their way to a semis spot despite being down to 3 players.
On the other end of the bracket is Canada who finished unbeaten in pool phase as well. They’ll take on Australia who battled early adversity just like the men’s side to go 2-0 tonight.
