BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The FIBA Regional Office-Asia continued its efforts to develop mentors and aspirants after successfully organizing a SEABA coaching clinic in Malaysia.
Made possible in cooperation with the Malaysia Basketball Association, the workshop was held during the FIBA U18 Asia Cup 2024 SEABA Qualifiers last July 18-21 in Kuala Lumpur.
Forty-one coaches from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam took part in the five-day course, which started with classroom sessions and was followed by on-court work to help the attendees apply the lessons they received.
“I got a deeper sense of how much more there is to learn, and a better understanding of how I can continue to develop my skills and knowledge in order to become a better instructor and coach," said Malaysian coach Woo Chun Fei, who's one of the clinic's participants.
"It gave us many important lessons which I believe will be a big influence on our coaching," said Revan Jonathan from Indonesia. "Also, I thank my fellow coaches for all they shared."
Pong Teck Seng from Brunei, meanwhile, was as thankful for the entire experience. "It was really a good chance for me to learn a lot of things. We do not have much of these in Brunei and yet I was able to partake this clinic, and that I really appreciate," he said.
These coaching courses are part of the Regional Office’s efforts to improve the National Federations, including the coaches, who are an integral part of basketball games.
