Sara Yamada handed out 10 assists for the second time

Playmaker Sara Yamada breaks new ground at the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup as her team hits a new record high.

LEON & IRAPUATO (Mexico) - Sara Yamada has become the first player in the history of the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup to hand out 10 assists or more in two separate games at the same edition.

Having reached double-digits in dimes against Argentina in the Group phase, the playmaker repeated the feat with a second double-digit outing in her team's 100-60 Round of 16 success against Mali.

Nanano Hamada also had 9 assists for record-breakers Japan

Also helped by her teammate Nanano Hamada who passed the rock no fewer than 9 times in the contest, the pair were the driving force behind a new landmark for Japan.

They broke their own assists record with 31 in the contest, which surpassed the previous high of 30 which were handed out in 2018 against Belarus.

The new high tide mark means Japan can also take additional pride in having posted the highest ever total assists in a game by an Asian team and also the highest assists total by any country other than the USA.
