EKATERINBURG (Russia Women's Cup) - BC Volgaburmash won the FIBA Women's World League for the second straight year earlier this season and now they have more silverware headed to the trophy cabinet after pipping UMMC Ekaterinburg in the final of the Russian Women's Cup.
Volgaburmash, who boast a star-studded line-up which includes Russia's national team center Maria Stepanova and Spanish international Amaya Valdemoro, defeated hosts Ekaterinburg 73-64 in the final on Friday.
Having fought back from 26 points down to defeat Dynamo Moscow in overtime in their semi-final, Volgaburmash led only 37-34 at half-time against UMMC.
But Stepanova & Co outscored UMMC 23-15 over the next 10 minutes and marched to victory.
This is proving to be another outstanding season for Volgaburmash.
They have reached the Superleague play-offs with 21 victories in as many games and will be heavily favoured against Shelen Krasnoyarsk in the quarter-finals.
In the EuroLeague Women, Volgaburmash face Lietuvos Telekomas in the last four and if successful, will then take on Final Four hosts Gambrinus Sika Brno, or US Valenciennes in the final.
Volgaburmash defeated Gambrinus in last year's final.
