CAMPERS:
Top 100 African players from 20+ African countries.
Players ages 19 and under.
Players selected by FIBA, NBA and participating federations, with input from FIBA/ NBA international players from Africa.
PRESS CONFERENCES & APPEARANCES:
Press conferences will be scheduled to announce the camp and answer questions from the local media.
Autograph sessions and/or sponsor appearances for the FIBA/ NBA participants can be worked into the schedule.
CAMP FORMAT:
Players will be divided into 10 teams Bobcats, Grizzlies, Hawks, Kings, Knicks, Magic, Mavericks, Nuggets, Rockets and Spurs
Each team will be coached by a FIBA/ NBA player or a FIBA/ NBA coach.
There will be daily clinics in the morning to teach fundamentals (passing, shooting, dribbling, one-on-one moves, offense, defense, etc.)
Each pre-determined team will have designated time to practice their camp offense.
Games will be scheduled for the afternoons and evenings.
Individual and/or team shooting games will be incorporated into the daily schedule and be played for FIBA/ NBA prizes.
All participating players will be outfitted with NIKE apparel and given a NIKE gym bag containing mesh practice gear, shoes and socks.
OBSERVERS:
The camp will be entirely open to the media and sponsors.
The camp will be entirely open to FIBA, NBA, NBDL and NCAA coaches.
The camp will be closed to the public during the morning drills.
The camp will be open to credentialed guests during all games.
COMMUNITY RELATIONS
The focus of the daily community outreach efforts during Basketball without Borders Africa will be education, grassroots basketball development and health related issues with a focus on HIV/AIDS advocacy. The highlight of our community outreach will be the creation of an NBA Cares live, learn or play space.
The camp also features a product donation for local non-government organizations (NGO's) that include school supplies, toys, clothing, toiletries and hygiene products, books, and other necessities
Daily motivational life-skills seminars will be conducted for the campers on various topics such as leadership, character development, teamwork and HIV/AIDS awareness and education.
Community outreach efforts will be lead by the current and former FIBA/ NBA players attending the camp.
