Guillen replaces Daniel Seoane and will make his debut in the third window of the FIBA AmeriCup 2025 Qualifiers.

MIAMI (United States ) – The Venezuelan Basketball Federation announced that Ronald Guillén will be the new coach of the national team, replacing Daniel Seoane, who earlier this week agreed to leave the position. Guillén has already had experience within the coaching staff of the Venezuelan senior national team. He served as an assistant during the realm of Argentine coaches Néstor "Che" García and Fernando Duró. In addition, he led Venezuela in the U18 South American Championship 2022 which was held in Caracas.

The Venezuelan coach will make his debut at the helm of the team in the third window of the FIBA AmeriCup 2025 Qualifiers, which will be played between February 20 and 24. "Guillén has recently been champion of our professional basketball. On one occasion as an assistant and on another as head coach. He is one of us. He has been part of the work plan since we took office in the federation. He has interacted in the formative categories, has been in the World Cup cycle and has contributed to following the values of the National Basketball Plan," said Hanthony Coello, president of the Venezuelan Basketball Federation, in a press release. Right now, Venezuela is in fourth place in Group A of the FIBA AmeriCup Qualifiers, with a 1-3 record. In the February match-ups, they will host Argentina and Chile. They need to win both of their games and wait on other results to get their ticket to the continental tournament that will be held in Managua, Nicaragua, at the Polideportivo Alexis Argüello, from August 22 to 31, 2025.
