SFAX (African Champions Cup for Women) - Hortis Ahongi was in the limelight on the last day of the preliminary round at the 2014 African Champions Cup for Women (ACCW) on Wednesday, in Sfax, Tunisia.

The DR Congo international put on a dominant performance with 28 points and 13 rebounds to help INSS past Tunisian side Club Sportif Police de Circulation (CSPC) 75-60.

The result means CSPC will take on Primeiro D'Agosto of Angola in Friday's Quarter-Finals, while INSS will face Nigerian side First Bank.

Despite being without Mireille Nyota - who poured in a game-high 31 points on Tuesday - INSS had no trouble to secure their second straight win (2-2).

Betty Kalanga, a DR Congo international featuring for CSPC, finished with 13 points, while Houda Hamrouni bounced back from a poor performance on Tuesday to pace the Tunisian club with 15 points for CSPC, who finished the Group Phase 1-3.

In the highly-anticipated game of the day, ACCW reigning champions InterClube de Luanda edged out Dolphins of Nigeria 79-59.

    ...

The Angolans had five players score in double digits, including Sequoia Holmes, who contributed a team-best 19 points and nine rebounds.

Despite out-rebounding the Angolans (40-39), InterClube's good ball movement - which resulted in 15 assists - proved too disruptive for Dolphins' defense.

To make matters worse for the Nigerian side, their offensive game was far from where it had been in their previous three games as they turned the ball over 23 times.

Togolese Akpne Kodjo led all scorers with 26 points for the Nigerian outfit, who suffered their first loss to drop to 3-1.

"It was a tough game," InterClube’s coach Manuel Sousa said afterwards. "We managed to make the most of their offensive limitations, especially stopping their big players near the basket."

Dolphins coach Wale Aboderin said: "We were up against the current African champions. They have to do whatever it takes to win. And we are in the growing stage of learning. We are coming up against more experienced players that we don't play in Nigeria."

In Wednesday's last game, Nigeria international Joyce Ekworomadu had 19 points to lift First Bank to a 67-52 win over Kenya Ports Authority (KPA).

Yvone Odhiambo led the Kenyan side with 19 points and 11 rebounds in defeat.

While fellow Kenyans United States International University (USIU) - losers of all four of their Group B games - KPA (0-3) advance to the next round as a result of Group A featuring only four teams.

Thursday is a day off with the action resuming with Friday's Quarter-Finals. Tournament hosts Club Sportif Sfaxien take on Dolphins, KPA face InterClube, INSS square off against First Bank and D'Agosto playing CSPC.
