    PUR - Puerto Rico names their national team for FIBA Americas Championship for Women:

    SAN JUAN (2009 FIBA Americas Championship for Women) - Puerto Rico announced the twelve players that will represent them in the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship for Women to be played from September 23-27 in Cuiaba, Mato Grosso, Brazil.

    The team coached by Omar Gonzalez won Silver in the last Centrobasket Tournament celebrated in Morovis, Puerto Rico. The other two teams that qualified from the region are Cuba (Gold) and the Dominican Republic who won Bronze.

    The finalists are: Leslie De Jesús, Pamela Rosado, Aixanel Santos, Milagros Martínez, Juanita Rivera, Mildred Emmanuelli, Cynthia Valentín, Liza Báez, Angiely Morales, Lindsay González, Mari Plácido and Esmary Vargas.

    Puerto Rico is in Group A along with Brazil, Canada and the Dominican Republic. Group B has Argentina, Chile, Cuba and Venezuela. The top three teams at the end of the tournament will qualify for the 2010 FIBA World Championship for Women to be played in the Czech Republic.
