SALTA (2010 FIBA World Championship) - The Puerto Rican national team will play the Super 4 tournament in Salta without Carlos Arroyo, Renaldo Balkman and Daniel Santiago who are unable to attend due to some personal commitments for this week. The team added Larry Ayuso, Peter John Ramos and Luis Villafañe. Puerto Rico opens the Super 4 on August 3 against Paraguay.
The Puerto Rican team will start their official warm-ups for the 2010 FIBA World Championship with the Super 4 to be played on Tuesday and Wednesday in Salta, Argentina. Puerto Rico comes from Gold medals in the 2010 Centrobasket Championship and the Central American and Caribbean Games.
"Now comes the big tournament. We know that the challenge is big and we will do everything possible to get a medal," said guard Jose Juan Barea will be with the team in all their games.
The 12 players who will be in Salta are: Peter John Ramos, Manuel Narváez, José Juan Barea, Filiberto Rivera, Ángel Daniel Vassallo, Christian Dalmau, Larry Ayuso, David Cortés, Ricky Sánchez, Nathan Peavy, Carmelo Lee and Luis Villafañe.
After the Super 4, Puerto Rico will play Argentina on August 8 in Santa Fe and the next day in Las Parejas. They will take off to New York on August 10 where they will play in the Nike World Basketball Festival against Brazil on August 13 and with China on the 15.
