SAN JUAN (BSN) - Puerto Rico national team boss Manolo Cintron has been appointed coach of BSN strugglers Leones de Ponce.
Cintron, who has led the club before, takes over from Carlos Mario Rivera with Leones second bottom of the standings.
“I’m returning home,” Cintron said, before explaining how he planned to change the team’s fortunes.
"We are going to run. We're not dead. Seventeen games remain and the season is still a long one.
“I need to change the mentality of the players, to defend more and to finish off games (when they have the lead.)
The team has also just signed big man Ronald Slay, who just finished the season at Eldo Caserta in Italy.
Slay averaged 13.5 points and 7.5 rebounds this season for Caserta, who narrowly avoided relegation from the Lega A.
Rivera, meanwhile, has become the assistant to the president of the Leones de Ponce board of directors, Bermudez Helcias Columbus.
