SAN JUAN (FIBA Americas Championship) - Puerto Rico are unsure if center Peter John Ramos will play for the national team at the FIBA Americas Championship because of his need to have a hernia operation.

The 2.22m Ramos is a player that Puerto Rico can ill afford to lose as they attempt to reach the Final of the event in Mar del Plata to qualify for the London Games.

"Yes, it could affect my participation with the national team," Ramos admitted.

"It feels a little bad because I like to represent my country but this is for my well being and I have to be careful."

The hernia is in Ramos’ groin.

"If the recovery is successful, that will determine when  I can join the national team,” he said.

"It depends on how I feel."

Should Puerto Rico finish third, fourth or fifth, they would be invited to the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
