ARECIBO (FIBA Americas League) - Capitanes de Arecibo supremo Luis Monrouzeau has spoken of his burning desire to win this season’s FIBA Americas League.
The Puerto Rican outfit will host Group A and take on Merengueros of the Dominican Republic, Pioneros de Cancun of Mexico and Brazilian outfit Minas Tenis Club from December 9-11 at the Coliseo Manuel "Petaca" Iguina of Arecibo.
"At this time, Los Capitanes is Puerto Rico," club president Monrouzeau said.
"Not only do we want to be champions of Puerto Rico, but we are determined to be champions of the Americas Tournament.”
Capitanes are coached by David Rosario, and he said: "We have no excuses because the team is well prepared.
“Having won the national tournament, our next aim is to win the Tournament of the Americas and we have prepared ourselves to win it."
Capitanes meet Pioneros Cancun on December 9 in their first game with Minas Tenis Club taking on Merengueros in the other opening day clash in Group A.
The toughest pool could be Group B, which includes defending champions Peñarol, their Argentina rivals and newly-crowned Super 8 champions Regatas Corrientes, Biguá of Uruguay and Universidad de Concepción of Chile.
Group C has Flamengo and Universo of Brazil and Libertad Sunchales of Argentina with the games to be played from January 14-16 in Rio de Janeiro.
Group D consists of Mexican outfits Halcones Xalapa and Soles de Mexicali and Costa Rican club Liceo and will be played in from January 20-22 in Mexico.
The winners of each group will qualify for the FIBA Americas League Final Four from February 6-8.
