BELGRADE (2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments) – Serbia concluded the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) they hosted in Belgrade in impressive fashion and secured a berth at Rio 2016 after defeating Puerto Rico 108-77 in the Final.
The Serbian men's national team will consequently take part at the Olympic Games for the first time in history as an independent country, since at Athens 2004 the team had represented Serbia and Montenegro.

“I can only be proud of these guys and proud that they let me coach them,” said Serbia head coach Sasha Djordjevic. “I congratulate the team, my staff, the federation and the city and the country which made such a great effort to organise this tournament. It is now up to us to pay it back with good behaviour, good attitude and good basketball in the Olympics, to hopefully do something good.”

Big man Miroslav Raduljica thought Serbia's performances to reach the Olympic dream spoke for themselves.
“Is there anything more to say after the kind of games this team played and everything we showed on the court? I love all the guys on this team, from the first to the last on this team and we're going together to Rio," he said.
Serbia will find out in which group they will play in Rio through the completion of the tournament’s draw in Manila on Sunday.
