    MVP Stewart leads All-Star Five at the Women's Olympic Basketball Tournament in Tokyo

    TOKYO (Japan) - It's a birthday that Breanna Stewart will never forget after the USA forward won her first Olympic gold and also landed MVP honors to cap a seriously special tournament debut at the Games.

    TOKYO (Japan) - Breanna Stewart cemented her reputation as one of the world's finest as she landed MVP honors to headline the  All-Star Five of the Women's Olympic Basketball Tournament in Tokyo.

    The USA standout led her nation to their seventh straight title and ninth in total, with some superb performances, including in the title game itself against Japan when she claimed 14 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. That resulted in a majestic tournament double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds per game - as well as averaging 4.7 assists.

    Meanwhile it was a birthday that A'ja Wilson will never forget after the USA forward won her first Olympic gold on her big day to cap a seriously special tournament Games debut. She finished with 16.5 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.

    Joining them in the All-Star Five is playmaker Rui Machida who provided the main thrust for the hosts making their stunning run to a historic silver medal. She finished with a jaw-dropping 75 assists in the competition at 12.5 per game - including 18 against France in the Semi-Final when she set an Olympic game-high record.

    Sandrine Gruda was pivotal to ensuring that France finished their summer on a high. They left Tokyo clutching bronze and she was central to their success, with the veteran center amassing 13.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. She was also second in the competition for shooting with a stellar 61.4%. 

    Last but not least, Emma Meesseman endured the agony of being on the wrong side of one of the greatest games the Olympics has ever witnessed as Belgium were edged out 85-85 in the Quarter-Finals against Japan. However, the forward still makes the line up because of her exceptional displays which resulted in her being the leading scorer in the tournament, averaging a spectacular 26.8 points, 10.5 rebounds,4.8 assists and 3.5 steals per game.
