MADRID (Rio 2016 Olympic Games) - Spain's rising star Ilimane Diop has seen his time with the national team come to an end this summer with coach Sergio Scariolo electing to move forward without the promising 21-year-old.

"Without a doubt, these three weeks have been only the first step for him in future selections for him in the national team." - Spain coach Sergio Scariolo

Diop, who impressed with Laboral Kutxa this past season in the Liga Endesa, shone for his country as a youth dating back to the 2011 U16 European Championship. He showed a lot of potential with some of the best players in the world as Spain prepared for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

"He has helped us a lot," Spain coach Sergio Scariolo said. "We are very happy with his performance and integration into the group.

"Without a doubt, these three weeks have been only the first step for him in future selections for him in the national team."

Spain are now in Malaga preparing for a second consecutive warm-up game against Lithuania to be played on Thursday.

The Baltic side won the first encounter on Monday, 87-83.
