    October tip-off set as FIBA West Asia Super League (WASL) returns with second season

    BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The FIBA West Asia Super League (WASL) is set to return with its second season in October.

    BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The FIBA West Asia Super League (FIBA WASL) is set for another go-around.

    Looking to build on the maiden competition's success, FIBA's newest pan-regional league is ready to roll its second season, with an 16 October 2023 tip-off date.

    Similar to the first season, 16 teams bannered by domestic league champions from the West Asia and Gulf regions are set to compete, with 8 making up the FIBA WASL West Asia League and the other half comprising FIBA WASL Gulf League.

    Ushering the new season will be the draw on 8 August 2023, the location of which will be confirmed soon.

    Season 2 is deemed crucial in building the staying power FIBA WASL aspires for, with the league hoping as well to sustain its accomplishments from the opening season.

    The inaugural season sparked even more interest from basketball fans and stakeholders alike across the region, making the Final 8 in the "City of Gold" a successful event that further fuels FIBA WASL's excitement in staging a new season that will start earlier than the first.

    The league's pinnacle event witnessed some impressive performances and surprising twists, culminating with Manama emerging as the first-ever Final 8 champions after overcoming Kuwait Club in a thrilling finale,  67-59, at the Sheikh Saeed Bin Maktoum Sports Hall.

    The competition format will remain the same for Season 2, with the three best teams at the end of each WASL Sub-Zone league earning their tickets to the Final 8.

    Joining the six are the champion teams from South Asia and Central Asia, and they will all vie for the right to become cage kings of the region.
