Antananarivo (FIBA Africa Championship for Women) – Nigeria women national D’Tigress Saturday defeated her Cameroonian counterpart by 62-51 points to move into the classification position 5-6.
The Nigerian side who lost by 89-45 points to Senegal in the quarter-final on Friday trailed the Cameroonian by 15-10 points in the first quarter, the former champion of the FIBA Africa Championship for Women rose to the challenges in the second quarter to go past the Lioness of Cameroon by 24-16 points for a half-time scores of 34-31 points.
The team continue her search for a respectable landing in the third quarter taking the Cameroonian apart with a 20-14 points win before rounding off in the last quarter with a 08-06 points victory for a final score-line of 62-51 points.
Nigeria guard, Funmilayo Ojelabi led the floor with 18 points and 3 rebounds, Rashidat Sadiq contributed 10 points and 7 rebounds while Vera Angwe-Ellong added 11 points with Adeola Olanrewaju grabbing 16 rebounds.
Cameroon Astride Gano-Njigap led her team with 10 points and 6 rebounds and Annie Nyatcho-Ngamou added 10 points.
The Nigerian side will take on the winner of the game between Madagascar and Mozambique while Cameroon will keep a date with the loser for position 7-8.
